    阿胥肯納吉與皇家愛樂在1992年灌錄的這個《胡桃鉗》全曲錄音，號稱是史上最長《胡桃鉗》，因為足足有91分鐘多，比葛濟夫的《胡桃鉗》版本足足多出十分鐘。這是因為阿胥肯納吉採用了較慢的速度來鋪陳。
    專輯自從發行以來，就深受好評，甚至企鵝評鑑有很長一段時間都給予最高分力薦。錄音中阿胥肯納吉發揮了他身為鋼琴家的那種細膩度，將每一個樂句和聲部都細細酌磨，因此塑造了一份非常值得樂迷細細品嚐的《胡桃鉗》，而不像大部份的胡桃鉗都只著重在外在的熱鬧華麗。

    這份錄音與其他《胡桃鉗》不同的地方，還有加收了葛拉佐諾夫的芭蕾舞作《四
    季》。這是他為曾經編排柴可夫斯基三大芭蕾舞作的法國編舞曲佩第帕（Petipa）所寫的作品，於1900年在聖彼得堡由俄國皇家芭蕾舞團首演。此曲的錄音歷來就不多，俄國指揮家灌錄的更是稀少，能夠有阿胥肯納吉的獻身說法，為這部芭蕾留下了很道地俄國式語法的演出，為此曲增色不少。葛拉佐諾夫的《四季》，是從冬季開始，然後才進入春季繁花盛開的季節，之後則是夏季玉米田豐饒的景像，最後則是秋季的酒神祭。之後則有一小段的結尾，描寫夜空裡的繁星。
